Sabbath comes from the Hebrew word Shabbat which means “a day of rest.” According to Hope Bolinger (2022, God commanded a day of rest because He wants us to trust Him, and taking a Sabbath helps keep us from idolizing work. Also, we fall apart if we do not rest (physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually).
The sabbath is important from a biblical narrative in observance and remembrance of Sabbath as one of the Ten Commandments (the fourth in original) Jewish, the Eastern Orthodox, and most Protestant traditions. The Fourth Commandment states: “Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath (day of rest) to the Lord your God.”
In observing the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, according to (King James Holy Bible 1769/2020, Ezekiel 20:19-20), 19“I am the LORD your God: follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Keep my Sabbaths holy, that they may be a sign between us. 20Then you will know that I am the LORD your God.” Man is following the edict of God as written in the (Old Testament).
Derek Prince explains how born-again Christians in Israel faithfully obey the 4th Commandment of God, while others all over the world follow paganism. Is it not in Israel that the Gospel of salvation in Christ began with Jesus and the Apostles?
In Hebrew, true observance is on the seventh day which is (Saturday), Yom Rashon the first day of week is Sunday. According to Prince, “Hebrew is more faithful to the Bible in its titles for the days of the week, for we, regrettably, are using pagan deities as titles for the days.”
Whether one is not a 7th day Adventist, nor of Judaism, with legalistic Sabbath, the Catholic Church (Council of Laodicea) in A.D. 336, changed the day to Sunday. Many believe that since our days of the week are named after pagan deities, that this “betrayal” of rule, is distorting deliverance of rest, obedience, law, creation, and blessing (Prince, 2021).
Relative to the New Testament, Sabbath was commanded since God rested on the seventh day from His creation (King James Holy Bible 1769/2020, Exodus 20:11). In Deuteronomy 5:15, we find the second version of the ten commandments for the reason to remember that the Lord delivered Israel from Egypt.
Satan, Prince believes, through Roman Catholicism (Laodicea) changed it and enforcing it, as explained in Daniel’s dream of the Four Beasts, (King James Holy Bible, 1769/2020, Daniel 7:25), mainly “…he shall speak great words amongst the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.”
Our Lord Jesus Christ warned of the abominations standing in the Holy place of which prophet Daniel spoke of Matthew 24:15, “Believers (Saints) are the holy place of God today, where God dwells through the Holy Spirit. And what did Daniel 7:25 say concerning them? “Satan will change the Times and Laws of God, and the SAINTS will obey him.” So, it is not strange seeing Saints commonly all over the world obeying Satan to Sanctify Sunday instead of Saturday as God’s 4th Command stipulates according to Prince (2021). Sunday equals the day of the sun.
In the New Testament, we read that we are not under the law, but under grace (Roman 6:14), Christians do not have to submit to the ceremonial law anymore. According to Visser (2021), The New Testament shows four ways that Sabbath laws do not apply to Christians since 1). Sabbath commandment is not repeated, 2). Paul never wrote to the gentile churches he planted, that they had to keep the Sabbath, 3). The churches in the New Testament met on Sundays, not on the Sabbath, like the Jewish synagogues, 4). Paul explicitly teaches that the Sabbath is just a shadow of things to come, but that the reality is found in Jesus. He gives us the heavenly rest. Therefore, Paul forbids us to judge other people based on whether they observe a Sabbath (Colossians 2:16-17).
The fact is that the Sabbath as an institution was established by man. God does not rest from His works every seventh day, and there is no evidence that there has never been a moment of cessation in the activity of the universe (Fillmore & Fillmore, 1999).
We are told that trees, flowers, planets, suns, stars, and sidereal systems are the work of God; that it is God who sustains and governs, control and directs them. Yet trees, flowers, planets, suns, and stars are active the first day and the seventh day of the week, just the same as on other days of the week.
Properly, if God ordained a certain day of rest and rested on that day Himself, as is claimed, He should give some evidence of it in His creations: but He has not done this, so far as anybody knows. The Truth is that Divine Mind rests in a perpetual Sabbath, and that which seems work is not work at all. When man becomes so at-one with the Father-Mind as to feel it consciously, he also recognizes this eternal peace, in which all things are accomplished. He then knows that he is not subject to any condition whatsoever and knows he is “lord even of the sabbath.”
New Sabbath (New Testament) implies personal choice in observance of a day of rest. Respectfully recognize that whatever day is chosen, a personal relationship ought be cultivated throughout the minutes, hours, and days in between for true reflection and restoration. Man can never exercise dominion until he knows who and what he is and, knowing, brings froth that knowledge into the external by exercising it in dive order, which is mind, idea, and manifestation.
